I am just a simple gal from Canada who lived most of my life in Toronto. I went to Jarvis High School and McGill Unversity and majored in English and Fine Arts. I loved music and formed my own band and wrote and produced a CD called Bone and Marrow with Andy Koyama – Steven Speilberg’s personal sound mixer. I went back to school for culinary arts at George Brown because I loved and still love cooking and writing my own recipes. This little endeavor led to a few significant things….
“Dean McDermott” ”Ken Kostick” and “What’s for dinner?”
First of all I became a chef and started working in some of the best restaurants in Toronto – I really enjoyed the work but the hours were killing my social life so I took a week off and that is when I met my husband (now ex-husband) of 13 years, Dean McDermott – an actor and bouncer who I met and married within 9 months….oops!
Now after I got married and when I wasn’t too busy being the perfect wife I pursued my acting and cooking career. I was lucky enough to land a cooking show which has played for over 15 years in Canada. It is still on to this day and myself and my wonderful little co-host Ken Kostick did over 700 episodes of “What’s for Dinner?” – and only sued each other twice! Pretty good for a partnership.
Fast forward to December 2004 when myself my husband Dean and our little boy Jack moved to Los Angeles so Dean could pursue his acting career. Well he also pursued a few other things and within 6 months he had left the family for the actress(?) Tori Spelling. Cut to a lot of public humiliation and tabloid hell and I relocated back to Canada. For 2 years there I did the morning show at Proud FM called “What’s for Breakfast?” again with Ken Kostick. We also did another cooking show called “He Said, She Said with Ken and Mary Jo” that ran for 2 seasons on the W Network.
And now to the present – I am back living in LA where I just bought a new house and feeling the complete lack of currency in my now drained bank account. I am excited though – my book “Divorce Sucks” is out and available on Amazon.com and already becoming a best seller!! I will be traveling and doing publicity for it in October – Good Morning America October 20th and a signing at The Grove Tuesday October 27th at 7 30 pm. Really looking forward to meeting all the people who have pre-ordered and ordered it all ready.
Thanks for tuning in – I will keep you posted!!
